FCT Police Crush Notorious Kidnap Gang, Rescue Victims, Recover Arms

THE Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has scored a major victory against violent crime, neutralising a notorious kidnap gang that has terrorised parts of Abuja and neighbouring Nasarawa State.

The dramatic operation began on 15th September 2025, when gunmen attempted to abduct two young women in Kpobi and Kpaduma 3 Villages, Guzape District. Using their captives as human shields, the kidnappers engaged security operatives in a tense confrontation. Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S.

Adewale, who personally led the tactical response, ensured the safe rescue of the victims, though a local vigilante, Bako Pwaza, tragically lost his life in the exchange.

Just two days later, the same gang abducted one Mr Nafiu Idris in Karu. Acting swiftly on credible intelligence, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, supported by local hunters and vigilantes, launched a clearance mission.

At dawn on 18th September, officers stormed the gang’s hideout in Zinda Forest, near the Nasarawa border. A fierce gun battle followed, leaving the gang leader, Abdullahi Umar a.k.a. Duna, and two of his lieutenants, Buba Ahmadi a.k.a. Killer and Habi Sule a.k.a. Mai-Kudi, dead.

Recovered from the hideout were two AK-49 rifles, loaded magazines, mobile phones, ATM cards, charms, animal horns and ₦10,000 cash.

Investigators confirmed that the gang had been behind several high-profile kidnappings in Karu, Guzape, Kpobi and other nearby communities.

Their planned assault on another Karu resident was thwarted by the successful operation.

Commending his men for their bravery and professionalism, CP Adewale urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.

Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh described the breakthrough as a “major blow against violent criminals” in the FCT, stressing that the Command will sustain its offensive to ensure the safety of residents.
