THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed 8,166.95 kilograms of seized illicit drugs in Yobe State, marking a major milestone in the ongoing war against drug trafficking and abuse.
The destruction exercise, held on Tuesday, was supervised by the Chairman and Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), with the support of Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni.
According to the NDLEA, the destroyed substances comprised 6,791.249 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 1,375.65 kilograms of psychotropic substances, 0.04 kilograms of cocaine, and 0.012 kilograms of heroin.
Speaking during the event, Brig. Gen. Marwa commended the Yobe State Command for its commitment to curbing the menace of illicit drug use and trafficking. He emphasised that the destruction of the substances symbolised the agency’s zero-tolerance stance on drug-related crimes.
