The Anambra State government has dismissed eight members of the Agunechemba Vigilance Group following their involvement in the brutal assault and stripping of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.
According to official reports, the dismissed operatives have been handed over to the police for prosecution.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, counsel to the victim, Cyrus Onu, revealed shocking details of the incident, alleging that the perpetrators threatened to rape and kill the corps member for daring to speak out.
“They were banging the door, and Jennifer was trying to open it when they kicked it in, almost hitting her face,” Onu recounted.
“Most of them were masked, dressed in mufti, and carrying guns, so you can imagine how terrified the corps members were. They gave no identification and simply shouted, ‘Come down! You’re all thieves! You’re all Yahoo boys!”
The lawyer further explained that when the operatives attempted to drag the corps members downstairs, the victim insisted they be allowed to contact their Local Government Inspector (LGI), as they had no idea who the armed men were.
