Gunmen Kill Ondo Monarch In Suspected Kidnap Bid

GUNMEN on Wednesday night attacked Agamo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, killing the traditional ruler, Oba Kehinde Falodun, in what authorities suspect was a kidnapping attempt gone wrong.

Community sources said the assailants, believed to be bandits, stormed the monarch’s residence and attempted to abduct him. During the attack, he was shot multiple times. He later succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased, the Alagamo of Agamo, was said to have been a respected traditional leader with significant influence in the area.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the attack occurred at about 7:10 p.m. on February 18, 2026, in Ahungha Village, Agamo area.

According to him, the police received a distress call at about 7:50 p.m. from a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu, reporting that about six armed men had invaded the monarch’s residence and forcefully dragged him from his compound.

Jimoh stated that the monarch was later found a few metres away with gunshot wounds and was confirmed dead at the scene.

He added that the Divisional Police Officer, alongside tactical teams, immediately mobilised operatives in collaboration with local security outfits, including Atuluse Security, local hunters and the Amotekun Corps, to comb nearby bushes and surrounding areas in search of the suspects.

The police spokesperson said efforts were ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible, while surveillance had been intensified across the area to prevent further security breaches.

Jimoh assured residents that the command remained committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and urged anyone with credible information to report to the nearest police station.
