Police Warns Public After Arresting Mother Who Sold Infant, Fake Drinks Producer, Cannabis Dealer

ABAKALIKI, EBONYI STATE – The serene atmosphere of the Autu Nkalaha community in Ishielu Local Government Area has been shattered by grief following the tragic death of a high-profile traditional ruler at the hands of his abductors.

HRH Eze Francis Igwe, the traditional ruler and father of the immediate past Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Barr. Kelechi Igwe, has died in captivity days after he was kidnapped, family sources have confirmed.

The monarch’s death has plunged the state into mourning and drawn a heartfelt reaction from the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, who served as governor while Barr. Igwe was his deputy.

Senator Umahi, in a statement released on Saturday, described the news as deeply shocking and a painful dream.

“This is shocking, very sad, and still feels like a dream,” Umahi said. “It is painful to imagine that such a respected elder and traditional ruler could meet such a tragic end.”

The late Eze Igwe was widely known for his wisdom, gentle disposition, and commitment to the peace and development of his community. The Minister noted that his death is a profound loss, not just for his immediate family but for the entire traditional institution and the people of Ebonyi State.

Senator Umahi extended his heartfelt condolences to his former deputy, Barr. Kelechi Igwe, acknowledging the immense pain of losing a parent under such violent and heartbreaking circumstances.

“I deeply feel the pain of my brother and former Deputy Governor, Barr. Kelechi Igwe, and the entire Igwe family at this moment,” the statement read. “Losing a father is always painful, but the nature of this tragedy makes it even more heartbreaking. My prayers and thoughts are with the family.”

While confirming that security agencies have made swift arrests of suspects allegedly involved in the dastardly act, the Minister expressed hope that the wheels of justice would move swiftly. He called for a full prosecution, emphasizing that it is necessary to bring closure to the grieving family and to serve as a deterrent against future crimes targeting community leaders.

As the family and community grapple with the irreparable loss, Senator Umahi prayed for the eternal repose of the monarch’s soul.

“May God console the family and grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May the soul of HRH Eze Francis Igwe rest in perfect peace,” he added
