Woman Arrested for Stabbing Husband to Death Eight Months After Wedding

ABIA — The Abia State Police Command has taken into custody a woman identified as Mrs Sarah Innocent for allegedly fatally stabbing her husband, Mr Innocent, following a domestic altercation that turned deadly.

The tragic incident unfolded on Saturday night at Ohuru Isimiri village in Obingwa Local Government Area, sending shockwaves through the close-knit community.

According to family members of the deceased, the couple had tied the knot in December 2025, making their marriage barely eight months old at the time of the tragedy.

Confirming the development on Monday evening, the Abia State Police Command stated that a report was lodged at the Ohuru Isimiri Police Divisional Headquarters on August 9, 2026.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed that preliminary reports indicate Mrs Sarah Innocent allegedly plunged a kitchen knife into her husband’s chest during a heated misunderstanding between the pair.

The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where attending medical staff pronounced him dead upon arrival, she added.

DSP Chinaka further confirmed that forensic officers have visited the scene of the crime, and the deceased’s remains have been deposited at a mortuary pending an autopsy examination to ascertain the precise cause of death.

The suspect is presently being held in police custody, with detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) conducting a discreet and thorough investigation into the matter.

The police spokesperson assured that the ongoing probe would seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident, as the command remains committed to ensuring justice is served.
