POLICE operatives in Anambra State have arrested a 36-year-old woman in Onitsha following allegations of sexual abuse involving a minor, with four children rescued during the operation.
The arrest was made on the evening of 10 September 2026 after open-source intelligence flagged a trending video appearing to depict the abuse.
During the operation, officers recovered sex toys and other items said to be connected to the case.
The four rescued children are aged two, three, six and nine.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, preliminary investigations are under way, and the suspect’s husband is also being questioned.
“The suspect is currently in police custody as the Command intensifies its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and the possible involvement of other persons,” the Command said.
“The husband of the suspect is also undergoing interrogation to determine whether he has any connection with the alleged offence.”
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Ama, psc, expressed deep concern over the development, describing the act as unacceptable given the vulnerability and exploitation of the children involved. He directed a thorough investigation and ordered that the rescued minors be given immediate protection and welfare support.
“To this end, the Command notes that beyond the investigation and prosecution, its priority is the safety, dignity and wellbeing of the rescued children,” the Command added.
“The Command will work with the appropriate child-protection and relevant support agencies to ensure that the victims receive the necessary care, protection, counselling and other support required for their recovery.
“Their identities and privacy will be protected throughout the process, and they will be treated with compassion and sensitivity.”
The Command also commended vigilante operatives in the area, as well as bloggers and residents whose information assisted the investigation and led to the suspect’s arrest.
