THE Anambra State Police Command has recorded significant operational breakthroughs in separate intelligence-led operations, resulting in the rescue of a kidnap victim, the arrest of seven suspected members of kidnapping and armed robbery syndicates, and the recovery of a stolen tricycle.
In the first operation, operatives of the Anambra IGP’s Violent Crime Response Unit, acting on credible intelligence, arrested two suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate. The suspects were identified as Victor Onwuka, alias “Bugatti”, and Madukaife Chidiebere Kenechukwu, aged 30.
The duo was apprehended in the early hours of 16 August 2026 at Akpukpokelemu Village, Nimo, in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
According to the Police, the suspects were allegedly involved in the kidnap of a victim who was held captive for three days in a criminal hideout. During the period of captivity, the suspects allegedly withdrew a total of N7 million from the victim’s bank accounts before fleeing with his Toyota Highlander SUV.
The Police stated that during interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime and were subsequently identified by the victim. They are currently assisting investigators with useful information towards identifying and arresting other members of the syndicate who remain at large.
In a second operation conducted on 15 September 2026, operatives of the same unit, acting on open-source intelligence, arrested five suspects allegedly linked to an armed robbery syndicate involved in the snatching of a TVS tricycle with registration number ASB595VD. The incident occurred in Asaba, Delta State, in April 2026.
The operation commenced with the arrest of the first suspect, Nwakpa Friday, aged 38, and the recovery of the stolen tricycle at Old Road, Nkpor.
Four other suspected members of the syndicate were subsequently arrested. They were identified as Sylvester Nteshi, 53; Nwuzor Livinus, 35; Mgbom Uche, 27; and Chiweuba Chukwudi, 42.
The five suspects and the recovered tricycle are currently in Police custody, while investigation continues to establish the individual roles allegedly played by the suspects and to track down other members of the syndicate still at large.
Reacting to the operational successes, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, commended the operatives for what he described as professionalism, intelligence-led policing, and prompt response.
The CP reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-driven operations, strategic deployment of technology, and coordinated operational pressure against kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and other forms of violent crime across the state.
He also urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to the Police and other security agencies to aid ongoing efforts to protect lives and property.
