THE Bauchi State Police Command has launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a former zonal women leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jemimah Dutse, dead inside her residence in Bauchi metropolis.
Ms Dutse, who served as the APC Zonal Women Leader for Bauchi South, was reportedly found in a pool of blood at her home in Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, on Saturday, 3 October 2026.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, a 49-year-old resident of the area reported the discovery at the ‘E’ Division of the command at about 2:07pm.
The police said Ms Dutse was found with her throat allegedly slit by unidentified assailants.
Detectives visited the scene following the report, documented their findings and evacuated her remains to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for medical examination and autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case and conduct a discreet and thorough investigation.
The police said the investigation is aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding Ms Dutse’s death and identifying those responsible.
The command also expressed its condolences to her family, friends and political associates, assuring the public that every effort would be made to bring the perpetrators to justice.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the identity of the assailant or assailants nor the motive for the killing had been established.
The police said further developments would be made public as the investigation progresses.
