THE Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Chidera Anthony Eleh, popularly known as Timaya, over his alleged involvement in a string of motorcycle-assisted robberies targeting Point-of-Sale (POS) operators and other unsuspecting victims in Awka, the state capital.
The suspect was apprehended by police operatives on Friday, 9 October 2026, following sustained intelligence-led efforts to track down criminal elements allegedly involved in motorcycle-enabled robberies and related offences across the state.
According to the Command, operatives recovered a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass and other items suspected to be connected with the alleged criminal activities during the operation.
Eleh, who was described by the police as an ex-convict, is currently in custody as investigations continue to determine the full extent of his alleged involvement and to identify other possible accomplices.
The arrest comes amid ongoing efforts by the police command to tackle robbery incidents targeting POS operators, business owners and other residents in Awka and other parts of Anambra State.
Confirming the development in a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the operation formed part of the command’s sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks and strengthen public safety.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, MNIPS, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that persons found culpable of criminal offences would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The police urged POS operators, commercial motorcycle riders and other business owners to remain vigilant and to report suspicious movements or criminal activities promptly to the nearest police station.
The command also assured residents that further developments would be communicated as weekend patrol operations commenced.
The police did not disclose further details of the suspect’s alleged previous conviction or whether other suspects had been arrested in connection with the robbery incidents.
The suspect remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
