Ogun PCRC Urges Calm Over Corruption Allegations Against Senior Police Officer

Two Sisters Stage Kidnap Plot, Demand Ransom From Dad

THE Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Ogun State Command, has appealed for calm following allegations of corruption levelled against Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ogundele Olorunwa, the Abeokuta Metro Area Commander.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 7 September, the State Chairman of the PCRC, Ven. (Dr) Samson Kunle Popoola JP, acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations but urged the public to allow due process to take its course.

“The Nigeria Police Force has established procedures for addressing allegations of misconduct, and we are confident that the hierarchy of the Force will ensure a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation,” Dr Popoola said. He assured that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken if the officer were found culpable.

Background And Public Concerns

The allegations, which surfaced last week, have drawn public attention in Abeokuta and across Ogun State, sparking concerns about accountability within the police force. Civil society groups and community stakeholders have called for a credible investigation to restore confidence in law enforcement.

While details of the specific allegations have not been made public, the case has highlighted ongoing debates about police conduct and the importance of community oversight in ensuring justice.

Profile Of ACP Ogundele Olorunwa

ACP Ogundele Olorunwa currently serves as the Abeokuta Metro Area Commander, one of the most strategic policing divisions in Ogun State. A career officer with decades of service in the Nigeria Police Force, he has previously held positions in crime prevention, operations, and community policing initiatives.

Known for his hands-on approach to policing, Olorunwa has often been described by colleagues as a strict disciplinarian with a focus on maintaining law and order. However, critics argue that allegations such as the current one underscore the urgent need for reforms in internal accountability mechanisms.

PCRC’s Position

The Ogun State PCRC reiterated its commitment to fostering cooperation between the police and the community, emphasising that public trust is essential for effective policing. Dr Popoola urged residents to remain calm and allow the established mechanisms within the Force to address the matter.

“We reaffirm our commitment to accountability, integrity, and justice, and we urge the public to continue to support lawful processes in the interest of peace and order,” he added.

The Nigeria Police Force is yet to release an official statement on the allegations against ACP Olorunwa.
