Bandits kidnap Catholic priest in northern Nigeria


Gun-wielding bandits have kidnapped a catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Mikah Suleiman, in under-terror Zamfara, Northern Nigeria.

Suleiman is the parish priest of St. Raymond Catholic Church in Damba, Gusau.

He was kidnapped and whisked away from the rectory within the church premises in the early hours of Saturday.

The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, headed by erudite Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah, confirmed the kidnap in a statement signed by the Diocese’s acting Chancellor, Very Revd. Fr. Nuhu Iliya.

The diocese expressed concern over the frequent kidnappings of priests, nationwide.

He lamented the escalating security challenges faced by religious communities.

St. Raymond Catholic Church Damba is located five kilometers from Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State.

Damba community has experienced numerous bandit attacks, with multiple abductions which has prompted many residents abandoning the area.
