Police hunt for human trafficking kingpin in Delta

A manhunt is underway for a suspect simply identified as Chinyere, who specializes in trafficking women from the East to Ughelli in Delta State for prostitution.

According to a press statement issued by Delta State Police’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, which was made available to CrimesChroniclers, it was alleged that Chinyere lures her victims by telling them they would be going to Delta State to work as sales girls in a restaurant.

The Division Police Officer, CSP Aliyu Shaba, as directed by the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, located one of the victims whose name was withheld.

The victim revealed the illegal activities of Chinyere, adding that Chinyere deceived her parents by telling them she would follow her down to Delta from Abia State to work as a sales girl in a bar with a monthly salary of ₦30,000.

However, later on, the suspect took the victim alongside two other young girls down to a hotel in Ughelli.

The victim told police authorities that when they got to their destination, they saw other teenagers being allegedly used for prostitution.

They were stripped of their clothes and were informed that it was prostitution they were brought for, which they declined.

As a result, they were immediately thrown out of the hotel.

Human traffickers, child prostitution suspects arrested, victims rescued in Delta

Operatives swiftly acted on the information and stormed the hotel, ‘Big Dafe Hotel,’ along Ughelli/Patani Road, and arrested one Chioma Edafe, 36, of Umuogbezea Community in Imo State.

According to the release, Edafe runs the hotel where 35 victims, including 23 teenagers, were rescued.

As of the time of filing this report, a manhunt was underway for the prime suspect, Chinyere.
