Delta Police raid hideouts, arrest kidnap suspects

THE Anti-Crime Patrol Team of Aboh Division of the Delta State Police Command, during a stop-and-search duty in Aboh, intercepted a motorcyclist conveying two occupants carrying a bag.

One of the occupants took to his heels and escaped when officers subjected them to a routine search.

 

CrimesChroniclers reports that 930 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered in the bag. The other suspect, Anthony Godday, was immediately arrested.

Last Thursday, at about 1:30 am, Crack Squad attached to Area Command Ughelli acted on a tip off and stormed a brothel cum criminal hideout in Ewu town, Ughelli South LGA, arresting five suspects identified as Dominic Uweru, Alias Ovwolo, 48, Isaac Oghenerukevwe, Alias Plug, 34, Oviri Godstime, 25, Junior Sunday, and Efedeki Adjovo.

A single barrel gun, three locally made cut-to-size gun, cash sum of N450,000 ransom, one Moniepoint POS machine, one OPAY POS machine, and wraps of marijuana were recovered from their hideout.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to various armed robbery/kidnapping operations in Ughelli and its environs.

In another successful operation, operatives of Agbarho police station raided the house of one 43-year-old Ovoke Enaike, an indigene of Ovierie Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was gathered that a nylon bag containing the one locally fabricated gun, one live cartridge and 38 rounds of AK 47 rifle ammunition hidden under his motorcycle seat were recovered.

As of the time of filing this report, the suspect was still in custody and efforts were being made to apprehend the remaining gang members.

According to a press statement issued by Delta Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, and made available to CrimesChroniclers, the case has been transferred to State Headquarters Asaba.
