The investigation was prompted by the recent detention and arraignment of young individuals on 1st November.
While attending an African Union Police Cooperation meeting in Algiers, the IGP directed an inquiry into the handling and welfare of these individuals in police facilities.
In response to the findings, the IGP has called for a conference and workshop with Deputy Commissioners of Criminal Investigation Departments (DCs CID) and heads of investigation units.
This event, scheduled for 7th November at the Police Resource Centre in Jabi, will emphasise professional, child-sensitive approaches to investigation.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its dedication to safeguarding vulnerable groups, asserting that maintaining fairness and accountability remains paramount within its procedures.
The initiative highlights a focus on legal compliance and ethical standards in handling detainees, especially juveniles.
The announcement was made by Assistant Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the IGP’s determination to follow through on the report’s recommendations and ensure improved welfare conditions for young detainees.
CrimesChroniclers reports that the detainees were juveniles arrested in the wake of the 10-day August #EndBadGovernance protest across Nigeria.
