Justice W.I. Aziegbemhin of the Edo State High Court in Benin City has sentenced 11 individuals to prison terms for internet fraud.
The convicts, including Izomor Samuel Efe, Nosakhare Bright, Emovon Destiny, and eight others, were found guilty of various charges such as obtaining by false pretence, advance fee fraud, and possession of fraudulent documents.
The prosecution, led by F.A Jirbo, I.K Agwai, and Salihu Ahmed, presented evidence that led to the conviction.
The defence counsel pleaded for mercy, citing the defendants’ remorsefulness.
The sentences ranged from two to three years imprisonment, with options for fines of N200,000 to N400,000.
