Suspect Arrested, Charged With Killing 16-Year-Old

A tragic shooting occurred at a Galena Park basketball court on Sunday afternoon, resulting in the death of 16-year-old Jayden Solis.
The accused shooter, 17-year-old Angel Elizalde, has been identified by three eyewitnesses, and surveillance footage from the recreation center has been obtained.
Adam Escalante, a close friend of Solis, was among the teens gathered at the Alvin D. Baggett Community Center on Monday to mourn the loss.
Escalante recalled playing basketball with Solis before a group left to play soccer nearby.
He heard the gunshots and rushed back to the court, where he found Solis lying on the floor.
The incident, CrimesChroniclers learnt, sparked concerns about teenage safety in Galena Park.
Jennifer Hernandez, Escalante’s mother, is urging the police to increase patrols in the area.
“The city needs more police presence,” she said, fighting back tears.
Another worried parent, Lolita Dixon, expressed her fears, saying, “I think about my child.”
Prosecutors presented their case against Elizalde, who was absent from his initial court appearance due to being combative in custody.
The magistrate judge set his bond at $500,000. Elizalde’s sister, speaking from their family home, acknowledged awareness of the charges but claimed ignorance about her brother’s arrest.
