THE Borno State Government has taken swift and decisive action against child abuse, following a disturbing incident where a young girl was brutally assaulted by Mamman Sheriff and his wife in Pompomari Bypass, Maiduguri.
The incident came to light after a video posted by Ahmed Baba Dikwa went viral on social media, showing the girl being beaten mercilessly for entering their compound to pick a mango after school.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) promptly arrested the couple, and the Borno State Government ensured that justice was served by involving relevant ministries, including Women Affairs and Social Development, Education, and Justice.

Despite being out of town, Commissioner Zuwaira Gambo directed a delegation to follow up on the case, ensuring proper legal proceedings were initiated.
The Ministry of Justice took over the case for prosecution, while the Ministry of Education took necessary steps in response to the incident.
The NSCDC assured the government that the perpetrators would face the full weight of the law.
The Borno State Government also provided urgent support to the young girl and her family, covering medical expenses and providing relief items.
The victim’s family expressed gratitude to the government and ministries involved for their swift response and commitment to justice.
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum‘s administration was commended for protecting vulnerable citizens and taking firm action against child abuse.
This incident reinforces the government’s zero-tolerance policy on child abuse, sending a clear message that perpetrators will not go unpunished.
