British Comedian Charged With Rape, Sexual Assault

BRITISH comedian and actor Russell Brand has been formally charged with rape and sexual assault, according to an announcement made by the Crown Prosecution Service on Friday.
The Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor faces charges including two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault, as stated by Jaswant Narwal, Chief Crown Prosecutor for London North, on Friday.
“These charges pertain to alleged offences that took place between 1999 and 2005, involving four women,” Narwal added.
Brand has consistently denied the allegations, asserting that all of his relationships were consensual.
In 2023, Russell Brand delayed his tour and rejected the accusations.
“The women who have come forward continue to receive support from specially trained officers,” said Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, the lead investigator with the Metropolitan Police, in a separate statement.

He also mentioned that the investigation remains ongoing, urging anyone who has been affected by this case, or anyone with relevant information, to come forward and contact the police.

The charges follow an investigation that was initiated in September 2023 after The Sunday Times and Channel 4 reported claims that Brand had sexually and emotionally abused four women.
The four women accused Brand of rape, sexual assault, and emotional abuse. One woman claimed she was 16 (the legal age of consent in the UK) when she started a relationship with Brand, who was 30 at the time, which allegedly involved both abuse and sexual assault.
Before the allegations were published and the Channel 4 documentary titled Russell Brand: In Plain Sight aired, the comedian-turned-wellness influencer posted a video on his social media accounts denying what he described as “very serious allegations.”
Brand, who was previously married to pop star Katy Perry, has since become more involved with right-wing political culture, making an appearance on stage with media figure Tucker Carlson during Carlson’s live tour in September.
Additionally, Brand has converted to Christianity in recent years and was seen attending the Republican National Convention in July.
Brand is scheduled to appear in Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on May 2.
