Police Neutralise Kidnappers, Recover Rifles, Ammunition

THE Nigeria Police Force has recorded major breakthroughs in its nationwide operations against violent crimes, neutralising four suspected kidnappers and recovering a cache of firearms and ammunition in separate raids across Delta and Kano States.
According to a press release issued on Monday, 14 April 2025 (Ref No. CZ.5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.6/415), by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the operations were part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on criminal elements threatening internal security.

In Delta State, police operatives attached to the state command carried out a sting operation on 10 April which led to the arrest of Abubakar Usman, alias Shehu, identified as the leader of a notorious kidnapping gang.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to several high-profile kidnappings and murders, including the abduction of a medical doctor in Issele-Uku and the kidnapping and murder of the wife and daughter of Mr Godwin Anuka in Ogwashi-Uku,” the statement read.
Usman also reportedly led police operatives to the gang’s hideout in a forest along the Asaba/Agbor expressway, where officers came under heavy gunfire.
A gun battle ensued, resulting in the death of four gang members.

The police recovered three AK-47 rifles and 90 rounds of live ammunition from the scene.
In a separate operation in Kano State, also on 10 April, operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested three suspects — Abdul Sadiq, 43; Ahmad Muazu, 22; and Aliyu Sharif, 40 — in the Dorayi Babba area.
The operation led to the recovery of 15 locally fabricated revolver rifles, 102 live cartridges, and six expended cartridges. Police say investigations are ongoing to uncover the location of the illegal arms factory and apprehend other accomplices.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, commended the officers involved for their bravery and professionalism.
