Nigeria Police Extradite Fugitive Over $307,500 International Fraud Case

THE Nigeria Police Force has extradited a Nigerian fugitive, Abubakar Aboki Muhammed, from the United Arab Emirates to face charges relating to a multi-million dollar fraud scheme.

According to a statement issued today by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the extradition was carried out on Friday, 23rd May 2025, following collaborative efforts between the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, Dubai Police, INTERPOL NCB Abu Dhabi, and the Nigerian Consulate General in Dubai.

Muhammed was wanted in connection with an elaborate case of obtaining money by false pretence, forgery, and money laundering after defrauding an Abuja-based international businessman of $307,500.

He allegedly posed as a shipping agent, claiming to facilitate the transportation of ten high-end vehicles from the UAE to Nigeria.

“The suspect misrepresented himself and fraudulently received the full payment through a third-party account in Nigeria, which was later traced to money laundering operations in Dubai,” the statement read.

Investigations revealed that Muhammed issued the complainant a forged bill of lading before disappearing.

He was, subsequently, placed on an INTERPOL Red Notice and apprehended in Dubai on 15 April 2025.

“This extradition marks a significant success in our sustained fight against transnational financial crimes,” said ACP Adejobi.

“The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, remains resolute in ensuring that criminal elements who seek refuge outside Nigeria’s borders are brought to justice.”
