Oyo Police Rescue 19 Ghanaians Trapped In Human Trafficking Ring

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 19 Ghanaian nationals suspected to be victims of a human trafficking syndicate operating in the Kajorepo area of Akinyele Local Government Area, Ibadan.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, the arrest was made on 2nd July following credible intelligence regarding suspicious movements around a particular building in the area.

He disclosed that operatives from the State Intelligence Department, supported by tactical command teams, executed a search warrant around 5:30 p.m., leading to the discovery of a building with its entrance securely locked from the outside.

“This operation led to the arrest of 19 individuals—14 men and five women—all young Ghanaian nationals,” Osifeso stated.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were lured into Nigeria with false promises of employment opportunities but ended up trapped in a deceptive and exploitative arrangement orchestrated by unidentified individuals.

The victims, he added, shared detailed accounts of their ordeal, which have proven valuable in advancing the ongoing investigation.

“In line with established protocols, the victims have been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and possible repatriation to reunite with their families,” he said.

CSP Osifeso further assured that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind the trafficking ring.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to the safety and security of all within the state.
