AN Ilorin High Court in Kwara State has sentenced Abdulrahman Bello to death by hanging for the murder of Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin.
Delivering judgment, Justice Hannah Ajayi described the killing as “wicked and barbaric,” noting that the evidence presented in court established beyond reasonable doubt that Lawal was gruesomely murdered for money ritual purposes.
The judge further stated that Bello’s romantic overtures towards the deceased were a ploy to lure her into a deadly trap.
However, the court discharged and acquitted four other defendants — Ahmed Abdulwasiu, Jamiu Uthman, Suleiman Muyideen, and Abdulrahman Jamiu — citing lack of evidence linking them to the crime.
