Double Victory For Nigerian Police: Trafficker Nabbed, Kidnap Gang Busted In Bold Operations

Sokoto Police Arrest Man for Alleged Killing of 15-Year-Old Wife

IN a major stride against organised crime, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced breakthroughs in two separate high-profile cases of human trafficking and kidnapping, underscoring its determination to protect lives and dismantle criminal networks across the country.

The first incident occurred on 30 July, when alert officers from the Enugu State Police Command, while on routine patrol along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, intercepted a suspected human trafficker.

The suspect, 30-year-old Raymond Sunday Wonna, was found in the company of two young female victims, 18-year-old Miracle Ogar and 16-year-old Angela Kingsley, who had been deceitfully lured from Ogoja, Cross River State.

Investigations revealed that Wonna had promised the teenagers employment in Ghana, but had neither their parents’ consent nor legitimate arrangements.

It was later discovered that he planned to transport them to work in a restaurant allegedly run by his former partner, whom he referred to as his “baby mama”.

While awaiting departure, the suspect lodged the girls in a hotel where he allegedly attempted to sexually assault them.

Thanks to the swift action of the patrol team, the young women were rescued and safely reunited with their families.

Authorities are continuing investigations to apprehend other members of the suspected trafficking ring.

In a separate development on 13 August, operatives from the Taraba State Police Command, acting on credible intelligence and in collaboration with local security outfits, stormed Mahadi Forest in Gassol Local Government Area.

During the operation, they arrested two suspected kidnappers, 20-year-old Yahaya Umar and 47-year-old Mohammed Umar, and recovered an AK-47 rifle.

The suspects have reportedly confessed to being part of a kidnapping syndicate linked to multiple attacks across Plateau and Taraba States.

Police say further efforts are underway to track down additional members of the gang and dismantle the network entirely.

Inspector-General of Police, Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the officers for their vigilance and effective response, reiterating the Force’s unwavering commitment to public safety.

He also directed thorough and expeditious investigations to ensure all those involved are brought to justice.

“These recent successes highlight the importance of community vigilance, intelligence-led policing, and rapid response,” said DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson for the Force.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its mission to combat criminality within and beyond the nation’s borders.”

The police urge members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and staying alert, as the fight against crime is a collective responsibility.
