THE Delta State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda, has made significant strides in its ongoing war against crime, with recent operations resulting in the arrest of a suspected armed robber and an ex-convict caught reoffending just days after his release.

In the early hours of 16th August 2025, officers of the Rapid Response Squad, conducting a routine stop-and-search operation along DBS Road, Asaba, apprehended one Bassey Udoh, 39, of Custom Market, Asaba. The suspect, who appeared visibly nervous upon sighting the officers, was searched on the spot, leading to the recovery of an English-made Beretta pistol concealed in his cross bag.

Preliminary investigations suggest Udoh is part of a burglary syndicate targeting residential homes, with reports indicating he purchased the firearm for ₦30,000. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

In a separate operation on 11th August 2025, officers from the Eagle-Net Special Squad, acting on a distress call, collaborated with the Nigeria Hunters Security Services to recover a stolen motorcycle and apprehend two suspects: Precious Okoro, 27, of ULO Street, and Buhari Deyegu, 18, of Ibusa Road, both residents of Asaba.

Shockingly, Okoro is a recently released ex-convict, having completed a two-year sentence for motorcycle theft at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Facility on 6th August 2025. Just five days after regaining his freedom, he allegedly returned to the same crime.

A search conducted at Okoro’s residence led to the recovery of additional stolen items, including a Tiger generator, a Fireman generator, and an iron measuring scale. Both suspects remain in custody, with further investigations ongoing.
