Two Utah Police Officers Killed, Suspect Arrested In Shooting

TWO police officers were fatally shot while responding to a domestic disturbance in Tremonton, northern Utah, on Sunday, authorities confirmed Monday.

A sheriff’s deputy and a police dog who also responded to the scene were wounded and remain hospitalized in fair condition.

According to investigators, the officers came under fire immediately upon arrival at the neighborhood home. “They requested additional units and then stopped answering their radio,” said Detective Crystal Beck of the Brigham City Police Department.

Police said bystanders eventually persuaded the gunman to put down his weapon.

He was taken into custody on charges of aggravated murder. SWAT teams later secured the residence to ensure no further threats.

The suspect’s identity has not yet been released.

Tremonton, a city of about 10,000 residents, is located roughly 75 miles north of Salt Lake City.
