Delta Police Smash Robbery, Fraud Syndicate, Recover N23.5m, Others


THE Delta State Police Command has arrested eight suspected members of a notorious robbery and fraud syndicate said to have defrauded 12 victims of over N23.5 million and carted away 42 motorcycles.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team swooped on the suspects between 11 and 16 August 2025 in different parts of the state.

Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the breakthrough in a statement, said the suspects operated in Warri, Ughelli, and neighbouring Edo State.

Their modus operandi involved approaching unsuspecting victims under the pretence of asking for directions before allegedly hypnotising them and looting valuables, including phones, motorcycles, jewellery, and even bank accounts.

Those in custody include 32-year-old Ibrukoko from Ovu in Ethiope East LGA; 31-year-old Obruche Actor from Emede in Isoko South; 28-year-old Lucky Umukoro from Eku, Ethiope East; 22-year-old Emmanuel Buruutu from Agbarho in Burutu; 27-year-old Musa Abdulahi from Kafanchan, Kaduna State; 30-year-old Sokoh from Ovwian, Udu; 36-year-old Preye Julius; and 30-year-old Kadija Abass from Gidama in Sokoto State.

Recovered exhibits include two Toyota Camry saloon cars with registration numbers LND-809-HE and KSF-61-JU, and sixteen suspected stolen iPhones.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects have defrauded their victims of over N23,500,000. They are also linked to the theft of about 42 lady motorcycles, with 12 victims identified so far,” SP Bright said.

In a separate incident, operatives of Ekpan Division arrested one Esquire Stanley following complaints about missing ladders hired and never returned. The suspect reportedly admitted to selling the ladders at N20,000 apiece, far below their actual value of N250,000.

Further investigation led to the arrest of alleged receivers of the stolen items – Chinedu Okorie, Orgi Abara, Philip Augustine, and Obone Jevweu.

Eleven ladders were eventually recovered.

The police confirmed that 10 suspects are currently being held as investigations continue.
