How Hunter Mistook Woman For Monkey, Shot Her Dead

TRAGEDY struck in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State when a hunter allegedly shot and killed a woman he mistook for a monkey while hunting in a nearby forest.

According to reports by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred on Monday at Basam Osokom community, when the hunter, identified as Otu Goodness Kanang, fired at what he believed to be a monkey perched on a tree.

Sources said Kanang heard a human cry moments after pulling the trigger and, on approaching the spot, discovered he had mistakenly shot a woman later identified as Victoria, whose other names were yet to be confirmed.

The hunter was subsequently arrested after detectives visited the scene.

With the assistance of community youths, the body of the deceased was recovered and taken to the residence of a local chief in Basam for further action.

Police authorities confirmed that the suspect is in custody and that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

They added that calm has since returned to the area.
