Court Remands Man For Allegedly Defiling Teen In Lagos

Rita Enemuru, Reporting

A Lagos Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of 54-year-old Lukmon Sanni after he was charged with the defilement and assault of his neighbour’s 15-year-old daughter.

The incident, which reportedly involved the use of an incapacitating substance, occurred at Ile Bebe Aledo, Agbowa Ikosi, Lagos.

According to reports, the victim’s father raised the alarm with the police at Agbowa Station after observing his daughter had difficulty sitting properly.

When questioned, the girl initially mentioned a discharge from her private area before revealing the full extent of the alleged assault.

She claimed that Mr. Sanni had given her a ‘medicine’ to consume.

After drinking it, she reportedly fell asleep, during which time he allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

This account led the police to arrest Sanni and transfer the case to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja.

Following investigation, the police found the suspect culpable and arraigned him before the Ogba Magistrate Court.

The charge read thus:

“Lukmon Sanni, male, is accused of committing an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015, by defiling the 15-year-old victim through forceful sexual intercourse sometime in September 2025 at their residence in Ile Bebe Aledo, Agbowa Ikosi.”

During the court sitting, the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, requested the court to not take the suspect’s plea, instead asked for a referral to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for comprehensive legal advice.

Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tanimola, granted the request and ordered Sanni’s immediate remand at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos.

The prosecutor was directed to duplicate and submit the case file to the DPP.

The magistrate noted that the DPP’s report will be crucial, as it will determine the court’s jurisdiction and whether the case is to be transferred to the High Court.

The case has been adjourned for mention until the DPP’s advice is received.
