THE Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a proscribed secessionist group who allegedly fled a criminal hideout in Ukpor following a dispute with his associates.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who credited the breakthrough to intensified security surveillance, enhanced visibility policing, and strengthened routine and targeted patrols ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.

According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Emmanuel Osuigwe, was arrested on the evening of Sunday, 30 November 2025, at Amakwa, Ozubulu, by operatives of the Ozubulu Police Division working jointly with the Ozubulu Central Vigilante.

He reportedly drew suspicion after being observed acting strangely and attempting to hide upon sighting the patrol team, but was swiftly intercepted and apprehended.

The statement added: “A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a handcuff, while visible handcuff marks and wounds were also observed on his body.

“During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to being a member of a proscribed secessionist group and claimed he recently escaped from a camp in Ukpor after a disagreement with other members of the group.”

The Command confirmed that the suspect is in custody and undergoing further questioning, noting that information obtained from him is already assisting ongoing investigations.

Reassuring residents of its commitment to sustaining peace and safeguarding lives and property across the state, the Command said further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
