THE Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa Oluyede, has extended warm Christmas and New Year greetings to Nigerians and personnel of the Armed Forces, reaffirming the military’s unwavering commitment to national security, unity and democratic stability.
In a goodwill message to mark Christmas 2025 and the New Year 2026, the Defence Chief described Christmas as a season of love, sacrifice, hope and renewal, urging Nigerians to reflect on their shared humanity and collective responsibility towards peace and national progress.
General Oluyede commended Nigerians for their resilience, patriotism and continued support for the Armed Forces, despite the country’s multifaceted security challenges.
He noted that the trust and cooperation between the military and the citizenry remain indispensable to achieving sustainable peace and security.
He assured the public that the Armed Forces of Nigeria would remain steadfast in their constitutional mandate to defend the nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and democratic institutions.
The CDS paid special tribute to frontline troops deployed across various theatres of operation, describing their courage, discipline and selfless service as the finest traditions of the Armed Forces.
He acknowledged the sacrifices made by personnel who remain on duty during the festive season while others celebrate with their families, stating that the nation owes them an immeasurable debt of gratitude.
General Oluyede also reassured officers and men that their welfare remains a top priority of the military leadership.
He highlighted the Armed Forces’ Strategic Military Philosophy, which focuses on strengthening operational capabilities through enhanced jointness, improved welfare, sound administration and a whole-of-government approach to national security.
According to him, the Armed Forces are committed to improving the living and working conditions of personnel and their families through enhanced welfare packages, better healthcare delivery, improved accommodation, timely payment of allowances and sustained support for the families of fallen heroes.
The Defence Chief urged members of the Armed Forces to reflect on the teachings of Christ by upholding peace, love, forgiveness, selflessness and purposeful service, while remaining disciplined, professional and loyal to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He also called on Nigerians to use the festive season to promote peace, tolerance and unity across ethnic, religious and cultural lines, stressing that the country’s diversity remains its strength.
General Oluyede expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his unwavering support to the military, and appealed to sister security agencies to sustain collaboration and unity of effort in safeguarding the nation.
He concluded by wishing Nigerians a joyful Christmas and a peaceful, prosperous New Year.
