Community Leader Gunned Down in Anambra as Police Launch Manhunt

18-Year-Old Apprentice Kills Boss With Pestle in Anambra

THE President General of Ogidi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Ikwuka Okoye, popularly known as Anumiri, has been assassinated in what is believed to be a cult-related attack.

The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday evening at the field of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ogidi. Chief Okoye was said to have been in the company of a friend when armed assailants struck, killing both men on the spot.

Credible community sources disclosed that the attack may be linked to the recent arrest of a suspected cult kingpin and alleged serial killer, identified as Emma Amasco, also known as Aye. Amasco was reportedly apprehended by vigilante operatives in Ogidi over his alleged involvement in several killings and other violent crimes, and later died during interrogation.

Sources further claimed that members of Amasco’s cult group accused the slain community leader of being complicit in his arrest and death, and subsequently plotted a reprisal.

Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said police operatives swiftly took control of the scene and commenced investigations.

“Following the report, police operatives promptly took over the scene and began investigations,” Ikenga said. “The Command is currently working with eyewitness accounts and other available intelligence to identify and arrest the perpetrators.

“The Anambra State Police Command assures members of the public that all efforts are being intensified to bring those responsible to justice. Residents are urged to remain calm and to cooperate with the police as investigations continue,” he added.

The killing has thrown Ogidi community into mourning, with residents calling for enhanced security and swift justice for the victims.
