OPERATIVES of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected commander of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and a suspected member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over their alleged involvement in a series of deadly attacks on police stations in Enugu State.
The suspects were apprehended on Friday in the Eha-Amufu and Umuhu communities of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, following months of what security sources described as sustained intelligence gathering.
According to a statement released on Saturday, the arrests mark a significant breakthrough in cracking down on a wave of violence that has plagued the region between 2024 and 2026.
The suspects have been identified as Sabastine Odo Odam, alleged to be a notorious ESN commander, and Ejike Daniel, a suspected IPOB member.
Security sources revealed that both men have allegedly confessed to masterminding multiple assaults on police stations, during which weapons were carted away and security personnel lost their lives.
“Both men have confessed to being masterminds of a chain of attacks on police stations and carting away weapons, including the killing of 11 labourers in February 2026, two policemen in January 2026, two policemen in December 2025 and another officer in 2024, among others,” a source said.
The arrests have been hailed as a major success for the DSS in its ongoing efforts to curb insecurity in the South-East.
“The arrests represent a significant success for the DSS in the fight against insecurity in the South-East and the country at large,” the source added.
Local residents in Isi-Uzo have expressed a sense of relief following the development, voicing hope that the arrests could help restore peace to communities that have endured repeated and violent attacks in recent years.
Both suspects are currently in DSS custody and are expected to be arraigned in court following the conclusion of investigations.
