ASABA – Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have rescued a kidnapped woman and arrested a suspected armed robber in a series of successful operations across the state, the command has announced.
In a statement released on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, detailed how the command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime squad acted on intelligence to rescue a 27-year-old woman from Ibusa community.
The victim was originally abducted on 12th March 2026 and taken to a building site beside the Obosi River, along the Ibusa/Ogwashiku Road.
Following a directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, to ensure her safe rescue, the squad tracked the kidnappers to their hideout on 19th March at about 3:00 pm.
Upon the operatives’ arrival, the kidnappers opened fire. However, the police team responded with superior firepower, forcing the suspects to abandon their captive and flee the scene. The victim was rescued and subsequently taken to a general hospital for medical treatment.
SP Edafe confirmed that efforts to track down the fleeing suspects are still ongoing.
In a separate incident, police operatives attached to the Owa-Oyibu division arrested a suspected armed robber following a distress call on 18th March.
According to the statement, a man named Sunday Blessing and two accomplices allegedly robbed a Point of Sale (POS) operator of the sum of six hundred thousand Naira (N600,000) at gunpoint on Diffrey Road, by the Ebu Owa Market.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) dispatched operatives to the scene upon receiving the report at about 9:30 am. The team acted swiftly, arresting the primary suspect, Sunday Blessing.
A locally fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered from him. SP Edafe stated that the suspect remains in custody as investigations into the matter continue.
