Delta Police Arrest Suspects, Recover Firearms and Illicit Drugs in Coordinated Raids

THE Delta State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its ongoing efforts to combat crime, following a series of intelligence-led operations across the state that resulted in multiple arrests and the recovery of firearms, illicit drugs and dangerous weapons.

In one of the operations carried out on 4 April 2026 at about 1:00 p.m., operatives of the Raiders Unit stormed a suspected criminal hideout in Ika South Local Government Area, Agbor, acting on credible intelligence.

The raid led to the arrest of a 34-year-old suspect, Henry Obi, who reportedly confessed to being a member of the Aiye Confraternity.

A search of the premises uncovered an English-made pistol loaded with six rounds of live ammunition. Officers also discovered suspected illicit drugs cleverly concealed inside a standing air conditioner, indicating deliberate attempts to evade detection. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.

In a separate operation on 5 April 2026 at about 5:09 p.m., operatives of the Buffalo Team, in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Achalla Branch, conducted a coordinated raid at Hausa Market near the Customs checkpoint along the Benin–Asaba Expressway.

The operation led to the arrest of four suspects aged between 16 and 21. Items recovered from the scene included large quantities of suspected illicit drugs such as Colorado, Canadian Loud, substances believed to be Indian hemp, Tramadol and Swinol. Officers also recovered two locally fabricated battle axes and a sum of ₦144,000.

All suspects are currently in police custody, with investigations ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers for their swift and coordinated response, describing the operations as crucial to the Command’s sustained crackdown on criminal activities.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide useful information, assuring that the police will remain resolute in protecting lives and property across the state.
