POLICE in Cross River State have launched a full-scale manhunt for a 30-year-old man, Sunday Ejor, who allegedly hacked his 26-year-old lover to death with a machete before dumping her body in a bush and fleeing the area.
The gruesome incident took place in Ekajuk community, Ogoja Local Government Area, on 29th March 2026, sending shockwaves through the quiet neighbourhood.
Residents have been left reeling, struggling to comprehend the brutality of the crime.
According to sources, Ejor had been living in Lagos but returned to his hometown after being linked to another alleged murder case.
He then began cohabiting with the victim, Lucy Moshe Igu, a native of Abrumbede in Ekajuk, who was described by family as peaceful and hardworking.
Trouble is said to have brewed when Ejor accused Lucy of infidelity, sparking frequent rows between the pair.
On the fateful day, a heated argument reportedly escalated into violence, and the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a machete.
Lucy sustained multiple fatal wounds. Ejor then allegedly dragged her lifeless body into a nearby bush in a desperate attempt to conceal his crime before making his escape.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident and said officers were working with security networks across the state and beyond to track down the fugitive.
“We are working with relevant security networks across the state and beyond to apprehend the suspect. Anyone with useful information should report to the nearest police station,” Ugbo said.
The victim’s family, still in profound shock, have called on authorities to ensure justice is served. “Lucy was peaceful and hardworking. Her death is a tragic loss,” a relative lamented.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Ekajuk Community Development Association has urged security agencies to intensify their efforts, warning that such acts threaten the peace and safety of residents.
The victim’s body was recovered from the bush after residents noticed blood trails and raised the alarm.
It has since been deposited at the General Hospital, Ogoja, pending a post-mortem examination as police continue their investigation into the dastardly crime.
