ADO EKITI — A 54-year-old man, Mr. Felix Fagbamigbe, has found himself in legal trouble after allegedly disposing of human faeces in a public space before being apprehended by authorities in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Mr. Fagbamigbe was arrested and subsequently charged before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court over the alleged unlawful disposal of human excreta, an offence contrary to the Criminal Law of the State.

According to court proceedings, the incident took place on 23rd April 2026 in Ado Ekiti, where the defendant resides.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence by unlawfully and improperly depositing human excreta in an unauthorised location. The prosecutor argued that this action contravened Section 6 of the Ekiti State Environmental Health and Sanitation Law, 2020 – an offence that carries a term of imprisonment upon conviction.

When the charge was read to him, Mr. Fagbamigbe pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor subsequently requested an adjournment to allow him to study the case file and present his witnesses before the court.

However, the defendant’s legal counsel, Mr. Idowu Ayenimo, urged the court to grant his client bail, giving an undertaking that the defendant would not abscond.

The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in the same amount. The court ordered that the surety’s address must be verified before the bail terms could be finalised.

The matter has been adjourned until 19th May 2026 for hearing. In the meantime, Mr. Fagbamigbe was remanded in custody at the correctional centre in Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the perfection of his bail conditions.

Stonix News understands that the case underscores the ongoing enforcement of environmental sanitation laws in Ekiti State, where authorities have continued to crack down on practices that compromise public health and hygiene.
