Jilted Man Appears In Court After ‘Merciless’ Attack On Estranged Lover Who Dared To Leave Him

Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

ABUJA – A spurned lover has been dragged before a Wuse Magistrate Court in the Federal Capital Territory, accused of brutally assaulting his former partner after she made the decision to end their relationship.

Suleiman Adams, a resident of Apo Resettlement, pleaded not guilty on Thursday to two counts of criminal force and assault. Prosecutors allege the defendant flew into a violent rage when his estranged lover, Inmesil Ekpa, attempted to retrieve her personal belongings from his home.

According to court testimony, Ms Ekpa had grown tired of the relationship and informed Mr Adams she was leaving. But when she arrived at his residence to collect her property, he reportedly refused her access and beat her “mercilessly.”

The prosecution, led by Mr O.S. Osho, told the court that the incident was reported at Apo Police Station on 15th April 2026. Investigators found Mr Adams culpable of inflicting injuries on the complainant and preventing her from recovering her possessions.

In a further escalation, the defendant allegedly seized Ms Ekpa’s handbag and mobile phone as she tried to collect her belongings.

Presiding Magistrate Zubara Mangal granted the defendant administrative bail but issued a firm order: Mr Adams must allow Ms Ekpa to remove her property from his residence without further hindrance.

The magistrate also urged both parties to resolve their differences amicably, regardless of their decision to part ways.

The case has been adjourned until 12th May 2026, pending a report on any possible settlement.
