ASABA — The General Secretary of the Delta State chapter of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Clarence Chinedu James, has been shot dead by suspected assassins in what the Christian body has called a “tragic and unbelievable” attack.
The cleric, who also served as the General Overseer of Endtime Reconciliation Ministries in Asaba, the state capital, was killed on Tuesday evening.
His attackers reportedly made off with his vehicle following the murder.
Delta State Police Command has since arrested two individuals in connection with the killing, including the bishop’s driver.
Both are currently undergoing interrogation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Delta PFN confirmed the death and demanded an urgent investigation.
The fellowship’s Director of Press, Pastor Malcolm Oteri, speaking on behalf of the State Chairman, Bishop Abos Willie, said the incident had plunged the Pentecostal community in the state into mourning.
“We have received with shock the news of the brutal killing of our General Secretary,” the statement read. “Bishop Clarence Chinedu James lost his life on Tuesday, 12th May 2026, in an attack by yet-to-be-identified assailants who made away with his vehicle.”
The PFN has called on the Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, to direct his officers in Delta State to conduct a thorough probe and ensure the culprits are brought to justice.
Bishop Willie expressed deep sadness over the loss, adding that the entire fellowship was grieving the death of its respected leader.
No further details have been released regarding a possible motive for the killing. Police enquiries are ongoing.
