JOS – Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have rescued eight kidnapped victims during a clearance operation in Pandam Forest, Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State, the military has confirmed.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of Wednesday, followed credible intelligence regarding the activities of kidnappers operating within the dense forest, according to Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force.
Gun Battle Erupts
Captain Oteh said the troops encountered the suspected kidnappers and engaged them in a fierce gun battle after the criminals opened fire while attempting to flee the area.
During the exchange of gunfire, three victims managed to escape on their own. Troops subsequently combed the forest and located five more abductees, bringing the total number of rescued individuals to eight.
Victims Safe, Families to Be Reunited
“The rescued victims are in safe condition, while efforts are ongoing to reunite them with their respective families,” Captain Oteh stated.
He added that troops have launched a manhunt for the fleeing kidnappers, who scattered into the bush during the confrontation.
Local residents from nearby communities have reportedly pledged to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
Military Appeals for Continued Public Support
The military urged members of the public to sustain their cooperation with security forces, emphasising that such collaboration is vital to eliminating criminal elements and restoring lasting peace across the operation’s area of responsibility.
The successful rescue operation underscores the military’s commitment to tackling insecurity in Plateau State, which has witnessed a surge in kidnapping incidents in recent months.
