Driver Sentenced to Death by Hanging for the Murder of His Employer

A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Jonathan Marcus to death by hanging for the murder of his former employer, 80-year-old Adebola Ezekiel, and his wife, Abiodun Ezekiel.

The couple were killed at their residence in Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja, on April 1, 2024, prompting an extensive investigation by the FCT Police Command.

Investigators traced Marcus, who had fled to Obajana, Kogi State, after the incident. He was arrested and brought back to Abuja, where police said he confessed to entering the couple’s home at about 11 p.m. on the night of the attack and killing them.

Further findings showed that Marcus had previously worked as the couple’s driver but was dismissed after repeated disagreements with his employers.

He was subsequently arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja, where the prosecution presented its case. After reviewing the evidence and submissions from both sides, the court held that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced Marcus to death by hanging.

The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory, assuring residents that those who commit crimes will continue to be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
