ENUGU — A joint security team has intensified efforts to track down armed men who abducted three persons during an early morning attack at a Catholic Church in Inoyi, Affa Community, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State on Saturday, August 2, 2026.
The joint security team, comprising police operatives, Forest Guards, and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, has been deployed to the area, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe.
Ndukwe said that while closing in on the fleeing suspects, the operatives forced them to abandon one of the victims, who was immediately rescued unhurt. The assailants, however, escaped with the remaining two victims.
Police Commissioner Orders Full Deployment
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Mamman Giwa, has directed the Area Commander for Oji-River and the Head of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to intensify ongoing operations.
The police spokesman said the commissioner had ordered the deployment of all available operational assets to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and the apprehension of the suspects.
Giwa also directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in-charge of the State Intelligence Department to immediately generate actionable human and technical intelligence in support of the operation.
Surveillance Capabilities Activated
Ndukwe said the command would be activating the surveillance and technical capabilities of the Enugu State Command-and-Control Centre to bolster the ongoing rescue efforts.
“The commissioner urges residents of the community to remain calm and continue to support the police with credible and actionable information,” the statement read.
“The command is assuring them that every available resource is being deployed to secure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

The police spokesman appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that could aid the ongoing rescue operation.
