THE Anambra State Police Command has dealt a significant blow to drug trafficking in the region, arresting two suspected dealers and seizing illicit substances valued at approximately ₦6.2 million during an early morning raid in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The operation, conducted by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, in the early hours of Tuesday, August 11, 2026, followed credible intelligence regarding the activities of suspected drug dealers operating in the area.
According to the Command, the raid was carried out in furtherance of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu’s directive for sustained intelligence-led operations and the dismantling of criminal hideouts nationwide.
Two male suspects were arrested during the operation: 47-year-old Nzube Onyedikachukwu, known locally as “Onyeoma”, and 20-year-old Ugochukwu Azia.
A thorough search of the suspected hideout uncovered a substantial quantity of substances believed to be Cannabis sativa, methamphetamine, and other illicit drugs, with an estimated street value of ₦6.2 million. Officers also recovered ₦598,400 in cash from the location.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs, with the location reportedly serving as a gathering point for suspected criminal elements following their activities. Police sources confirmed that several individuals fled the scene upon sighting the operatives.
The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to ascertain the source of the drugs, trace their distribution network, and identify other persons connected with the operation. Authorities are also working to establish the circumstances surrounding the cash recovered at the scene.
Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led raids, targeted operations, and proactive policing aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts and denying criminals safe havens across the state.
CP Oji Ama called on residents, traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to strengthen their partnership with the police by providing credible and timely information on suspicious persons, criminal activities, and locations suspected of serving as criminal hideouts.
He assured residents that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence and strategic policing operations to enhance public safety and security across Anambra State.
