Police Disrupt Suspected Cult Gathering in Onitsha, Arrest One

Sokoto Police Arrest Man for Alleged Killing of 15-Year-Old Wife

OPERATIVES of the Anambra State Police Command have disrupted a suspected cult gathering at Abagana Street, Fegge, Onitsha, arresting a 25-year-old man identified as Chinedu Ike.

The operation, which took place on September 27, 2026, followed credible intelligence received by operatives of the Fegge Police Station about the suspected gathering.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the operatives swiftly moved to the location and arrested Ike, while other persons suspected to be members of the group fled on sighting the Police.

According to Ikenga, the suspect allegedly admitted during preliminary interrogation to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity.

He said the Command had commenced intelligence-led efforts to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects and establish their possible involvement in cult-related activities and other violent crimes in the area.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, has directed that the case be transferred to the Violence and Cult-Related Crimes Unit (VCRU) for discreet investigation.

The CP, Ikenga said, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to deploy intelligence-led and proactive policing strategies to disrupt cult activities, prevent associated violence and bring suspects found culpable before the law.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist the Police in tracking down the fleeing suspects.

The Command assured members of the public that all information provided would support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security across the State.
