A police officer attached to the Ajaokuta Police Division in Kogi State has allegedly shot dead a female colleague before taking his own life in an incident reportedly linked to a troubled romantic relationship.
The incident was said to have occurred at about 9pm on Friday, October 23, 2026, at the female officer’s quarters, although the precise circumstances surrounding the deaths had yet to be officially confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
The officers were identified in preliminary accounts as Corporal Amos and Woman Corporal Grace, both reportedly serving at the division.
According to accounts cited by local media, Amos had reported for night duty as a station guard at about 6pm but allegedly left his duty post a few hours later and went to Grace’s quarters, where he reportedly shot her with an AK-47 rifle before turning the weapon on himself.
Sources familiar with the officers’ relationship alleged that the pair had been dating for several years but had recently experienced disagreements over trust and alleged infidelity.
The disputes were reportedly accompanied by physical confrontations and threats, prompting the intervention of divisional authorities at some point.
The sources further claimed that the officers had previously been detained following one of their disagreements, after which the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) allegedly advised them to end the relationship to prevent further conflict.
However, the reported intervention did not prevent the fatal incident.
Unconfirmed accounts further alleged that Grace sustained three gunshot wounds before Amos took his own life.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kogi State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement confirming the incident, the identities of the deceased officers or the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
