Nigeria’s Current Security Situation Is Close to a State of War — Former Kaduna Governor

FORMER Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a national emergency on security, warning that Nigeria’s worsening insecurity is approaching a state of war.

Speaking with journalists at his Kaduna residence over the weekend, Makarfi expressed concern over the growing wave of killings, kidnappings and terrorist attacks across the country. He said the security challenges facing Nigeria have become too serious to ignore and require a united national response.

“The current security situation is close to a state of war. We must come together and confront it as a national challenge,” Makarfi said.

According to him, the persistent insecurity is negatively affecting governance, economic development and the overall wellbeing of Nigerians. He stressed that the crisis should not be viewed through a political lens, but as a threat to the nation as a whole.

The former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) urged the Federal Government to stop politicising insecurity and take decisive action to tackle the problem, maintaining that the protection of lives and property must remain the country’s foremost priority.
