THE Delta State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its ongoing offensive against criminal elements, with the arrest of suspected armed ro

bbers and kidnappers in separate operations across the state.

Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, confirmed the successes on Thursday, commending the vigilance of community members and the collaboration between local stakeholders and security agencies.

Armed Robbery Suspects Apprehended

In the first operation, officers from the Ugborikoko Division arrested two suspects linked to an attempted robbery on 23 June 2026. The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 PM when one of the suspects unlawfully gained access to a residential compound but fled after realising occupants were present.

Swift action by community members led to the apprehension of the suspect and an accomplice, who were subsequently handed over to police.

Acting on intelligence gathered during preliminary investigations, officers searched the suspects’ residence and recovered one locally made pistol concealed inside a wardrobe. Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue into their potential involvement in other criminal activities.

Kidnap Gang Busted in Ughelli

In a separate development, operatives of ‘A’ Division Ughelli, working alongside local vigilante groups, arrested two suspected kidnappers in connection with a failed abduction attempt on 19 June 2026.

The suspects, identified as Iliyasu Hassan, 16, and Idris Abdulkarim, 32, were apprehended on 22 June at approximately 8:30 PM after emerging from a nearby forest to purchase food and medication.

Following their arrest, a victim of an earlier kidnapping positively identified the pair as being among his attackers. The suspects remain in custody while efforts continue to track down other members of the criminal gang and recover weapons used in their operations.

Community Collaboration Key

CP Oyeniyi praised the public’s vigilance and the strong partnership between community stakeholders and security forces, urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to the police.

“The Command remains unwavering in its commitment to protecting lives and property throughout Delta State,” the Commissioner assured.
