THE Delta State Police Command, in collaboration with the Oshimili North and South Local Government authorities, has commenced a decisive enforcement exercise against unauthorised parks and garages operating within the Asaba metropolis.
The operation, which began on Monday, July 20th, targeted illegal parks and garages that have contributed to traffic congestion, insecurity, and disorderly conduct across the city, as well as creating a breeding ground for crime by allowing unchecked parcels to be sent as waybills.
During the exercise, according to SP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer Delta State Police Command, Asaba, nine illegal parks were dismantled at strategic locations across the city: one at Pinnacle Junction along Okpanam Road, two at the Summit area, three at the Koka area, and three others at the Head Bridge axis, which marks the boundary between Delta and Anambra States.
A total of 45 vehicles were impounded during the enforcement exercise and have been handed over to the Local Government authorities for possible prosecution in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
The Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Yemi John Oyeniyi, emphasised that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to restore order and ensure that only registered parks and garages operate within the state.
The Command assured the general public that similar enforcement exercises will be replicated across other parts of Delta State.
The Command has called on Deltans to cooperate with the Police in this exercise and urged transport operators and motorists to comply with established regulations and utilise only approved parks and garages.
