THE Delta State Police Command has rescued an abducted woman in Sapele and arrested eight suspects in connection with an attempted murder investigation in Abraka.
The command also recovered three locally made pistols and suspected illicit drugs during separate operations as part of its ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping, violent crime and other criminal activities across the state.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Sapele Division received a distress report at about 7:45pm on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, that a woman had been ambushed by armed men at the entrance to her residence along Eko Amukpe Road.
The suspects reportedly fired several shots into the air before taking the woman into a nearby bush.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Sapele Division, immediately mobilised patrol and surveillance teams to the scene, where expended AK-47 ammunition shells were recovered.
Police operatives, supported by local vigilantes, subsequently launched an intensive search of the surrounding bushes.
The search continued throughout the night into Thursday morning, September 3, putting pressure on the kidnappers and forcing them to abandon the victim and flee.
The woman was later found and rescued unharmed before being reunited with her family.
The command said it had intensified efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing kidnappers.
Eight Suspects Arrested In Abraka
In a separate operation, operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible intelligence, raided criminal black spots within Abraka.
The operation followed an ongoing investigation into an attempted murder reported on September 3, 2026.
Eight suspects were arrested during the operation. They were identified as Evans Adamda, Mamatime Micheal, Wale Morakinya, Anabono, Godspower, Theophilus Philip, Robinson Oghenewiro and Inoni Ejiroghene.
Police said three locally made pistols, Tramadol and other suspected illicit drugs were recovered during the operation.
The suspects and recovered exhibits are currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish their individual involvement in the attempted murder and other criminal activities in the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the police operatives and local vigilantes for the successes recorded.
Erale reiterated the command’s determination to sustain intelligence-led operations and decisive action against kidnappers, cultists and other criminal elements across the state.
He assured residents that the police would continue to identify criminal hideouts, apprehend offenders and recover illicit weapons.
The Commissioner also urged members of the public to support the police by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing and combating crime.
