ABUJA — A Federal Capital Territory resident has been remanded in custody after allegedly pouring a pot of boiling water over her neighbour’s back during a heated argument over shared compound space, police have confirmed.
The FCT Police Command reported that officers at Lugbe Police Division received a complaint on 6th September 2026 from one Gift Amos of Lugbe, who alleged that her neighbour, Mrs Beauty Monday, had attacked her two days prior.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on 4th September at approximately 3:30 pm when the pair became embroiled in a dispute over the use of their communal compound area.
In a statement released to journalists on Wednesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, detailed the sequence of events that led to the shocking assault.
“The victim had moved the suspect’s pot of boiling water from the stove to the portion of the compound allocated to her,” SP Adeh explained. “This action angered the suspect, who subsequently removed the pot from the stove and poured the boiling water on the victim’s back.”
The victim sustained serious burns and grievous hurt and is currently receiving medical attention for her injuries.
The suspect was swiftly arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction and has been remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending further proceedings. The matter has been adjourned until 16th September 2026.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, issued a stern warning to residents, urging them to embrace peaceful coexistence and exercise restraint when resolving disagreements.
The Commissioner condemned acts of self-help and cautioned against resorting to violence in challenging situations, encouraging members of the public to seek lawful and peaceful means of conflict resolution.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the potentially devastating consequences when neighbourhood disputes escalate beyond control, with one resident now hospitalised and another facing serious criminal charges.
